This coming Sunday, 10 March, is Lent 4 and Mothering Sunday. You are welcome to join us at 9.00am for our service at the community church, 103 Beverley Tce, Whangamata.
For interest: Traditionally, Mothering Sunday was a day when children, mainly daughters, who had gone to work as domestic servants were given a day off to visit their mother and family. In the UK this is also the more generally recognised 'Mothers Day', which we, like the USA, celebrate on the second Sunday in May. This has meant that the significance of Mothering Sunday has dissipated in our context. Some of you might recall also having a Simnel Cake at this time - a lighter style of fruit cake with a layer of marzipan in the middle and on top. Then there would be 11 balls of marzipan arranged around the edge, symbolising the 11 disciples who followed Jesus (Judas is excluded).
