Sadly we have had to cancel the Good Friday service due to an outbreak of covid amongst us. We look forward to seeing you on Easter Sunday!

On Palm Sunday we think about Jesus riding into Jerusalem on donkey. Crowds welcome him waving palm branches and shouting 'Hosanna'. We will walk around the outside of the church with our palms, singing. Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week so we will also read together the Bible reading describing Jesus' journey to the cross. We gather next on Good Friday.
Join us at Cornerstone, 10.30am Thursday 21 March, to make Palm crosses for Palm Sunday. Come along to find out why we have this tradition.
This Sunday, 17 March 2024, is the 5th Sunday in Lent. We are at Cornerstone this week, at 9.00am. We will have a short AGM after the service then our usual Cuppa@Cornerstone in the Lounge. All welcome.
This coming Sunday, 10 March, is Lent 4 and Mothering Sunday. You are welcome to join us at 9.00am for our service at the community church, 103 Beverley Tce, Whangamata.
For interest: Traditionally, Mothering Sunday was a day when children, mainly daughters, who had gone to work as domestic servants were given a day off to visit their mother and family. In the UK this is also the more generally recognised 'Mothers Day', which we, like the USA, celebrate on the second Sunday in May. This has meant that the significance of Mothering Sunday has dissipated in our context. Some of you might recall also having a Simnel Cake at this time - a lighter style of fruit cake with a layer of marzipan in the middle and on top. Then there would be 11 balls of marzipan arranged around the edge, symbolising the 11 disciples who followed Jesus (Judas is excluded). |
